Solar
From Stew:
If you've shopped solar products at all, you'll know there are a lot of choices. This setup is a pretty basic one, all purchased at Northern Tool
I use 2 charge controllers to keep the 2 battery circuits isolated. This has worked out well for our houseboat, which is nice in that it's pretty much self contained with 12v power and propane for the fridge, stove, a light like the scotty, water heater and furnace. There is also 120v power with all the interior lights dual-powered, but I don't yet have power down at the dock. The 12v system gives us the freedom to tie up anywhere we'd like for the night. The rack the cells are mounted on is just an old, strap-on luggage rack I had kicking around, that I re-painted. I didn't want to put any holes in the roof, as it is currently in pretty good shape. I also carry a small inverter I can use to charge my laptop, cell phone etc, which I need to eventually upgrade to a higher wattage unit. I'll probably do a similar setup on my Scotty, with maybe 2 panels.
