Doug Warren's Air Conditioning Solution

Doug installed a 5,000 BTU a/c that he was able to pick up
at Lowes (end of season) for $60.00. He bought and installed a larger access door,
going as big as the bottom of the bunk. He had to enlarge the outside opening but it looks very professional. The a/c has to be slid out about 1/2 way to draw
the cooling air in from the side openings of the unit.

Doug took the front grills off the a/c and had an adaptor "boot" made up
at a local sheet metal shop. He came off it with 2- 3" starter rings
and ran 3" flex dryer duct to two adjustable a/c defusers that he installed in the
bulk head underneath the couch. They are available at any rv store.

Doug installed a nice ornate return grill in the drop down door so the unit
would suck the indoor air back into the a/c and only cool the inside air.
His
a/c also came with a wireless remote.
In 2007 Doug added: I didn't have the rear end of the a/c unit outside the trailer enough and it just kept short cycling the condenser air around and around not doing any cooling
at all. After I noticed some air slots in the side of the can I slid it outside so that it could get rid of all the heat it was picking up in the Scotty and trying to reject it outside. Freezes me out now. I have also installed since the pictures were taken a decorative vintage looking register cover I got at Lowes also for the return air back to the unit from inside the trailer. Looks nice.
