Nancy Kroes' 1959 Rear Door Scotty Rebuild

See also Page 1, Page 2, Page 3

Done - 1 year, 3 weeks and 3 days!

Covered the water filler hole with a small vent
(thanks for the tip Norma!)
The old electric port is covered with a copper peace sign - both
have flashing under them sealed with silicone

Everything that needed to go in the under bed storage fit in the access door!

New spare tire tongue mount and spare tire cover

Got my dad to help with the Bargman L-100 lock

Looks great - as does the new "porch" - there's a 20+ inch from the ground
step into the trailer - the porch is about 10" - helps a lot.
Door overhang is edged with 1/8" thick by 1 1/2" wide aluminum.

Found this 1958 version of the Serro logo on Ebay - it's my favorite

Love how the door turned out

Close-up of the porch - sized to fit the door mat which is stainless steel screwed on

The interior - my sister and brother-in-law gave me the LL Bean rug

I love the flannel comforter cover - looks like one of the utility quilts
my grandmother would have made

The birchbark basket is my Scotty wastebasket

Cribbage anyone?

My birchbark edged shelf. Lots of room to add more travel souvenirs.

Mostly bears, one wolf, one raccoon, one Mabel dog in a canoe, and one Scotty dog!

God Bless America!

Birch framed mirror

I love how cozy it is with the door closed!

Best of all - it passes inspection!

Back to work - May 2010

Adding a Wingard antenna - sanded the white pvc tube to remove the gloss
and spray painted it with Rustolem Hammered silver paint for plastic

The antenna installed. Also painted the wire port with the hammered paint

And, antenna in use

My little 9" Coby picked up 17 stations - woo hoo

Switching out sheets to put in the new Martha Stewart flannel Scotty dogs -
they look great with the vintage looking flannel comforter cover

Trim is DONE!
Opted for oak stained a contrasting color

Bed remade after adding another 1 1/2" of memory foam to the
original 4" of memory foam, plus the pillow decor

Mabel - ready to "Welcome" folks to her Rear Door at the
Tin Can Tourist's Camp Dearborn Rally on May 20
