Meet Gail and Jeff Fisk

Hi, we are Gail and Jeff Fisk from Worthington, Ohio, a suburb of Columbus. We have been Ohioans our whole lives. My hometown is a small college town of 1200 people, one of whom is John Glenn! My father taught physics at Muskingum College and John was one of his students. Jeff is from Nelsonville, a small town in SE Ohio, near Athens.

We first met in the early 70's when I was attending college and he was in the Navy. I was admiring his 1969 Nova SS (white on white on white) and he was admiring my 1956 T-Bird. Time passed and we went our separate ways but in 1988, my best friend asked me to attend her class reunion with her. Jeff had been in her class, we were both single again, and this time we married! Twenty years later we are still together, along with our rescue dog, Maggie Sue. Maggie was actually being led to the gas chamber when she was rescued and she is a great fit with our "rescued Scotty".

Jeff had a Goldwing when we got married and I love riding with him. Occasionally as we rode, I would catch sight of a small lonely camper in the woods or fields and think how cool it would be to have one. In the summer of 2005, I voiced my desire for for a small old camper and for the the next three months we spent every weekend on the road, stopping at people's houses and asking if the camper in the backyard was for sale. In October of 2005, I spotted our 1967 15' Gaucho in weeds taller than it is. It was Jeff's turn to go to the door, and the owner was willing to get rid of it for $50! The kids had been using it as a playhouse and it had actually been rolled over (one of the reasons our door looks a little strange).

Jeff towed it home and for the next nine months worked his magic on it practically every day. It was a BIG job, but half the fun for him was thinking of odd but practical ways of improving it. He removed all the propane lines but kept both Humphrey lights. Using pieces and parts from those electric candles you put in your windows at Christmas time, he turned them into electric lights! He turned our closet into a fully functioning half bath and all of our outlets, dimmers, etc. are tucked away so no cords are exposed when we use our lights and fans, etc. He added gas props to the back bed and it is now a wonderful storage area that is very easy to access.

Up to this point, we had been very traditional people, but our Scotty is very contemporary. I heard someone make the comment at the first rally that we attended that our Scotty was "less is more" and they are right, it is, but it has all the comforts of home! I found the contemporary plaid fabric I used for my curtains and we used that as a guide to paint our Scotty sea foam green and white instead of the standard aqua and white and we have loved it ever since!

As soon as our names were on the Scotty's title, I started researching Scotty trailers and the NSSO popped up on the screen. We were so impressed with the site, and all the rebuilds and resources, that we immediately joined. We missed the first rally by two weeks — just didn't get the Scotty finished in time. In August though, we were ready for our first trip and away we went to the UP of Michigan, stopping in Brighton, Traverse City, and even ended up going to Drummond Island and Copper Harbor! In October, we went to Largo, Florida, so in the Scotty's first year on the road, it was towed 5,000 miles! We use it a lot and are now over 12,000 miles with it!

In 2007, we finally made it to the NSSO rally and had the BEST time! We were very nervous, never having been to anything like that before, but we met the most wonderful people and made amazing friendships and now we count the months until the next rally — only five more!

As usually happens to everyone who owns a Serro Scotty, you find another one. In February of 2007 we bought a 1968 HiLander near Cambridge, Ohio. It is still a work in progress but you can bet it will be interesting when its done!

Note the electrified "propane" lamp and the Serro Scotty hubcap clock

And, the bathroom, where Jeff turned a candy dish into a sink!

Can't wait to see the HiLander Gail and Jeff!
